Since all the links pointing towards your previous site name, changing the domain will get the previous ranking. If you have made the separate site then you can get the old site redirected to new one. Otherwise you have to inform all the link providers to change the URL i.e. the new one in place of old one.

Search engines rank by domain name. By changing your domain name, you're essentially creating a new site as far as search engines are concerned.

You can point your old site to your new site to avoid losing any traffic from links to the old site. But as far as relevancy to search engines goes, you're starting over.

If you've picked a keyword rich domain name, it's worth switching over. Just accept that you'll take some time to regain your search engine rankings.

As far as what shows up in Google, it's the content from the last time Google crawled the page. New content won't show up until it's crawled again.

As always, do good page optimization for your chosen keywords to improve your search engine rankings.

1. The last indexed site is the one that will appear in the results until google crawls your site again to check the changes. There is nothing you can do to force Gbot to come crawl you again, but some links can motivate it to come faster.

2. If you redirect your old website pages to your new domain, you will lose only a few visitors (look for meta refresh tag and apply it.)

Welcome! =)
