Ahh welcome to the world of web deisgn.

FTP clients are the only way to correctly upload sitemaps for professional websites. New users I recommend cuteFTP or the free alternative (fileZilla).

Note: Sitemaps - Google main search engine user.
UrlLists.txt - Yahoo uses this instead.

So make sure you provide both. Also you could make a backup gzip of it because google will accept both.

Also remember to submit your sitemap once you are done to the WEBMASTERS SECTION OF GOOGLE.

Best of luck!

There is a free sitemap generator here;

http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

Once you have it you'll want to submit it to the search engines although most of them only require URLs for basic submissions.

Google: http://www.google.com/addurl/

Yahoo: http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html

AltaVista: http://addurl.altavista.com/addurl/default

MSN/ Live Search: http://search.msn.co.in/docs/submit.aspx?FORM=WSDD2

AllTheWeb - gets its results from Yahoo

AOL - Gets its results from Google

Ask.com - http://www.webeki.com/analytics/webmaster_tools_seo_tools_submit.html

You must have a sitemap to submit to Ask.

Happy site mapping!

you need to 2 types of sitemap file. one is xml version and the other one is html version. xml version for search engine spider bots while html version for website visitors. you also need to create robots.txt file. this file is to tell the search engine bots how to behave when they are at your sites crawling data for their index. you can either upload those file file to your host using your host control panel or ftp program. you upload those file to the root directory of your site where your index html file is placed. if you are ready to do that go to my site and check out the website building section and then web design tools. go to appropriate links to do all above. hope that helps a bit.
