When would this tag be used:meta name=robots content=noindex, follow

Should this be used for your Sitemap? Is that good practice?

And how about this one? meta name=robots content=index, nofollow

If you do this, does that avoid reciprocal linking and count as an inbound link since the bots don't follow the links back?

Any information would help. I know what these tags do, but I am just not sure when to use them.

It's confusing isn't it? Read through this http://www.seo-blog.com/robots-meta-tag.php it will help.

The best advice is not to use it unless you have a very good reason for doing so.

- it's for me is strange. because the sitemap purpuse is to let the spider follow all your web site links and if you used no follow there are no purpose to waste your time in building sitemap.
- webmaster use sitemaps to get all their web pages indexed which can help them to target more people. and increase their web site authority.
this practise is used by some webmaster to get backlinks from another web site which in reality an exchange links but this webmaster stole their partners and now there are big debat about no follow because google would like that the paid link will use no follow.
