If I click an ad on a website..how does website owner get paid?

You have to to have a program every program is different , mostly its a $0.1c to 50c per click but you have to have a website to ad these programs on I will give one example like this site below it has banners most of these banners are ads check out click on some you may find one you can be an affiliate

First of all...Google will ban a website owner for the same IP address clicking on an ad in the person's website more than 4 times. We call this click fraud.

I take it you are talking about Google Adsense. If you have highly targeted and unique content you can place Google Adsense on your site and each time a visitor from a different IP Address clicks on your ad in your site, you get paid anywhere from $0.10 to $10.00 per click based on relevancy to what that user typed into Google to find that ad or your site.

The best thing to do is become a professional PPC marketer and dont even bother with Adsense unless you want to write 100's of articles and single page sites and put Adsense Ads on each page and then spend hundreds in advertising to get people to click on your ads and then maybe you might make about $1000 a month.
